FIESTA DE COLORES: A CANADIAN LATINO FESTIVAL

As Dubai set to cool down after a long hot summer, this Fiesta turned up the heat to provide an amazing series of pure Latino dance and music. A ten member live music and dance team represented Canada's Latino community. This festival launched the beginning of a Latin craze which took over Dubai and has placed itself as a major player in the night scene. Our sponsors were Malaysia Airlines, Golden Sands Resorts, Channel 4FM, Khaleej Times, Dubai Municipality, The Wafi and Pyramids Center, JBL Martin-V.V.& Sons and other supporters such as HSBC, Emirates Bank, Cars Rent a Car, Eppco and others!

December 1998: UAE National Day Celebrations

The Department of Public Parks invited our troupe to perform for the public at the beautiful amphitheatre at Mamzar Park on the December 2 and 3.

The performers Ð Team Canada:

We selected 10 performers to represent Team Canada at this festival. They were: Dominicanada: a 4-member Salsa and Merengue Showband; Sangre Caliente: a 4-member dance troupe; Sabrina Macias: MC - a key host on TeleLatino Television Network; DJ Carlitos: Toronto's popular Latino Club DJ

The Four Day Festival:

November 17 - Day 1:
Team Canada Arrival and Press Conference The Press Conference was hosted by the Canadian Consulate and presented the Team and our main partners to the media

November 18 - Day 2:
Mall Appearances and Consulate Cocktail Reception Wafi Mall held a special event at which our team performed excerpts from their show. They also held some free Salsa and Merengue lessons. This created a lot of excitement as 50 people stepped in to the middle of the mall atrium and took their first lessons. Another 200 or so watched and cheered them on! This also helped create publicity and excitement for the following days' shows and gave the public an opportunity to meet the performers one on one and talk about their experiences in Canada. The same evening, the Consulate hosted a reception for the press and business community to meet the artists.

November 19 - Day 3:
Carters Latino Dance Party: The entire troupe and DJ Carlitos entertained a Latino theme party. This featured the dancers joining in with the crowd to teach them various dance moves and enthrall them with exciting Latino beats. They opened the show with Dominicanada and the dancers on top of a tiny bar-stage and bar tables!

November 20 - Day 4:
The Rooftop Concert in aid of Dubai Center for Special Needs: Team Canada performed an entire evening of live music and dance. This is took place at the Pyramids rooftop terrace. It was a ticketed event that raised funds for the Dubai Center for Special Needs. The Pyramids rooftop terrace has a capacity of 1200 is a beautiful open-air setting. We were able to sell over 900 tickets. This was the first event ever held atop the Pyramids complex.

December 2 & 3 : Mamzar Park: National Day

The team presented their repertoire to the general public's delight. We were allocated the main space at the amphitheatre, where thousands witnessed the musical spectacle on their holiday weekend.
